I really enjoy brunch on the weekends, so there was no hesitation when some friends invited me to join them at Cafe Medina in downtown Vancouver. This is quite a popular brunch destination and so there was quite a wait outside before we were seated. It turned out to be definitely worth the wait though.
There were a lot of tasty (and mainly French inspired) choices on the brunch menu. I decided on the Canard Confit – shredded duck meat, roasted yam, mushrooms, sautéed onions, tomatoes, greens and a fried egg to top it off.
The dish was absolutely delicious, the different flavours of the ingredients coming together in harmony to the delight of my tastebuds.
To follow this dish I shared a Belgian waffle with my wife.
We chose the Salted Caramel sauce to accompany the waffle. The waffle was warm and tasty – although not quite as awesome as the fresh hot waffles we’ve had from street vendors in Belgium. However, when dipped in the caramel sauce it made for a divine dessert that left us both wishing we’d ordered one each rather than sharing.
